Oppo Find X7 Ultra Review: A Premium Camera Flagship That Skips the Indian Market
After stepping back from India’s ultra-premium smartphone space in 2020 with the Find X2 series, Oppo has returned to the spotlight with its latest flagship — the Find X7 Ultra. While it won’t be officially launched in India, Oppo has sent review units to select Indian media outlets, hinting at possible future plans. After weeks of real-world usage, it’s clear this device is a powerhouse — combining premium build, top-tier specs, and an impressive camera system.
Price and Availability
The Oppo Find X7 Ultra is currently available only in China, priced at:
-
CNY 5,999 (approx. ₹70,000) for the 12GB RAM + 256GB model
-
CNY 6,999 (approx. ₹80,000) for the 16GB RAM + 512GB variant
Importing the device to India could result in significant additional costs due to customs and taxes, making it an expensive proposition for Indian buyers.
Design and Build Quality
The Find X7 Ultra features a unique dual-finish design that blends style with functionality. It’s available in three color options: Ocean Blue, Sepia Brown, and Tailored Black. The Tailored Black version reviewed here uses vegan leather with a stitched accent beneath the large circular camera module — offering both aesthetic appeal and better grip.
At 221 grams, it’s a bit hefty, but that adds to its premium feel. The device also has an IP68 rating, making it resistant to dust and water. A standout design element is the metal camera ring with precision grooves and an orange accent, reminiscent of classic Hasselblad lenses. It also features a three-stage Alert Slider — including a VIP mode that disables the camera, microphone, and GPS for privacy-focused users.
Hardware and Performance
Powering the Find X7 Ultra is the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, paired with up to 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 512GB of UFS 4.0 storage. The phone also packs a 5,000mAh battery with support for 100W wired and 50W wireless charging. Other features include Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, dual-SIM 5G, NFC, and even an IR blaster.
Software Experience
The review unit ran the Chinese version of ColorOS 14 (based on Android 14). While it comes preloaded with Chinese apps, most can be uninstalled. The UI is surprisingly clean, though Google apps and services are not available by default. You can install the Play Store manually, but certain services like Google Assistant and Auto-fill are not fully functional. Some AI features, like offline object removal, are present but only work in Mandarin.
Display and Multimedia
The Find X7 Ultra sports a 6.82-inch QHD+ AMOLED LTPO display with a 120Hz refresh rate and up to 4,500 nits peak brightness. The display is vibrant, color-accurate, and supports ProXDR for enhanced dynamic range. Curved edges on all sides give it a truly premium look and feel.
Performance-wise, this phone is a beast. It achieved a score of 1,985,279 in AnTuTu benchmarks, putting it among the top performers. Gaming is flawless — Call of Duty: Mobile ran at 120fps with barely any heating. Battery life is excellent, easily lasting a day and a half under moderate usage. In a video loop test, it ran for over 26 hours. Fast charging is equally impressive — 50% in 15 minutes, and 100% in about 38 minutes.
Camera System
The highlight of the Find X7 Ultra is its quad-camera setup, which includes:
-
50MP primary sensor
-
50MP ultra-wide sensor (with autofocus)
-
50MP 3x periscope telephoto lens
-
50MP 6x periscope telephoto lens
Co-developed with Hasselblad, the camera system offers several modes like Auto, Auto Master, and Pro Master for advanced manual control. The dual periscope lenses provide optical zoom up to 6x and good digital zoom quality up to 30x. Daylight photography is excellent, with sharp details and natural colors. Low-light performance is also strong, especially at optical zoom levels.
The ultra-wide sensor doubles as a macro lens, and portraits offer great edge detection. Selfies are crisp, and video recording supports 4K at 60fps on all lenses with consistent color science. It may not match iPhone’s cinematic smoothness, but it's easily among the best Android camera setups.
Verdict
The Oppo Find X7 Ultra is a well-rounded flagship that checks nearly every box: premium design, top-tier hardware, versatile quad-camera system, and incredible fast charging. The only downside for Indian users is the lack of a global or India-specific software version — which affects Google service compatibility and AI features.
Still, this device represents a massive leap forward from Oppo's earlier premium efforts. It’s unfortunate that Oppo doesn’t plan to launch the Find X7 Ultra in India in 2025, as it could have been a compelling alternative to devices like the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra or Vivo X100 Pro.
If Oppo does release a future Ultra variant in India, the Find X7 Ultra proves the brand has what it takes to compete at the top tier.
