Xiaomi Mi TV 5X 55-Inch Review: A Feature-Rich 4K Smart TV Under ₹50,000

The Xiaomi Mi TV 5X aims to redefine the value proposition in India’s competitive smart TV market. Known for offering budget-friendly and feature-loaded televisions, Xiaomi continues that trend with its Mi TV 5X lineup — a step up from previous models in both design and performance.

Priced at ₹45,999, the 55-inch Ultra-HD (4K) LED Smart TV comes packed with Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, hands-free Google Assistant, and Xiaomi’s custom PatchWall 4 UI alongside Android TV 10. But does it deliver a true flagship experience at this price point? Let’s find out.

🔧 Design & Build Quality

The Mi TV 5X features a premium-looking design for its price, with ultra-slim bezels and a brushed metal finish. Xiaomi has moved away from its "Mi" branding on the hardware, instead placing the “Xiaomi” logo prominently on a silver strip beneath the display.

The TV’s rear has a carbon fiber-style texture, giving it a more high-end feel. While not as slim as OLED models, it's reasonably sleek and fits well both on a stand (included) or a wall mount (sold separately).

📺 Display & Visual Performance

  • Screen Size: 55 inches

  • Resolution: Ultra-HD (3840x2160)

  • HDR Support: Dolby Vision, HDR10+

  • Panel Type: LED-Backlit

The display on the Mi TV 5X offers sharp visuals and vibrant color reproduction, making it ideal for streaming platforms like Netflix, Disney+ Hotstar, and YouTube. Content shot in Dolby Vision, such as Squid Game, looks immersive with deep contrast and enhanced brightness.

However, the panel lacks local dimming, which results in a slight greyish tone during dark scenes. Despite this, the black levels are better than most TVs in the sub-₹50,000 range, especially when compared to the Redmi TV X55.

🔊 Audio Quality

  • Speaker Output: 40W

  • Audio Formats Supported: Dolby Atmos, DTS-HD

The Mi TV 5X’s 40W speakers deliver loud and clear audio, making them sufficient for medium-sized rooms. While Dolby Atmos is supported, it’s limited in functionality — streaming platforms typically offer only 5.1 channel audio output. The Atmos effect is virtualized but does enhance soundstage slightly.

For a richer experience, pairing it with a soundbar like the Sony HT-S40R is recommended.

🎮 Performance & Connectivity

  • Processor: Quad-Core

  • RAM: 2GB

  • Storage: 16GB (for apps and media)

  • Ports:

    • 3 x HDMI 2.1 (one with ARC)

    • 2 x USB

    • Ethernet, Optical Audio, AV In, and 3.5mm Audio Out

Built-in Wi-Fi (dual-band) and Bluetooth support make wireless streaming and peripheral connectivity seamless.

Gaming is made better with Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM), available via HDMI 2.1, though don’t expect high refresh rate support.

🎙️ Remote & Smart Features

The Mi TV 5X uses Xiaomi’s familiar minimalist remote. While it lacks a dedicated mute button, features like Quick Mute (double press volume down) and Quick Settings offer handy shortcuts. Batteries are not included in the box.

Key smart features include:

  • Hands-Free Google Assistant

  • Chromecast Built-in

  • Alexa Support

  • PatchWall 4 + Android TV 10

PatchWall remains a standout — offering personalized content curation, IMDb ratings, and smart home integration via Mi Home App, allowing control of IoT devices like Mi smart bulbs or robot vacuums directly from the TV.

🧠 User Experience & Software

Running on Android TV 10, the Mi TV 5X provides access to over 5,000+ apps via Google Play Store. UI transitions are generally smooth, and streaming is fluid. However, occasional UI stutters, slow input response, and Wi-Fi dropouts were observed — especially while streaming Ultra-HD content.

Subtitle syncing issues occurred in some international shows, but were minor and resolved with a quick reboot.

Verdict: Is the Mi TV 5X Worth It?

If you're looking for the best 55-inch 4K smart TV under ₹50,000, the Xiaomi Mi TV 5X is a strong contender. It offers an excellent balance of features, picture quality, sound, and smart capabilities at an affordable price.

While it isn't perfect — with minor performance hiccups and Dolby Atmos limitations — it outperforms most competitors in its segment. For budget-conscious buyers who don’t want to compromise much on quality, this TV delivers more than expected.

Pros:

  • Dolby Vision + HDR10+ support

  • Hands-free Google Assistant

  • PatchWall UI with deep content integration

  • Great design and build

  • Solid audio output

⚠️ Cons:

  • Occasional performance lags

  • No local dimming

  • Dolby Atmos not fully utilized

Bottom Line:
The Xiaomi Mi TV 5X 55” is an excellent value-for-money 4K smart TV ideal for users seeking rich features, smart capabilities, and a sleek design — all under a tight budget.
